Typing with the keyboard
The Gelim keyboard types in English and Persian, with emoji and a space bar that moves the cursor. Typing never needs Full Access and never sends anything anywhere.
1. Switch to Gelim
Tap any text field. Tap the globe key to move to the next keyboard, or press and hold it and choose Gelim.
2. Choose your language
Tap EN / فا, to the left of the space bar, to switch between English and Persian. In Persian the bar above the keys reads right to left. To choose which language the keyboard opens with, open Gelim and go to Settings → Keyboard → Languages.
3. Type
Tap a key to type it. Type as fast as you like, with both thumbs: keys type in the order you press them, even when the next one lands before the last one lifts. Shift gives one capital letter, then turns itself off. Tap 123 for numbers and #+= for more symbols; in Persian the number key reads ۱۲۳.
Handy moves
| Do this | What happens |
|---|---|
| Hold the space bar for a moment, then drag | Moves the cursor left or right. A quick tap always types a space, even if your thumb rolls |
| Hold delete | Deletes faster, then whole words after about a second and a half |
| Tap ☺ | Opens emoji, with Search Emoji, your recent ones first, and nine sections |
| Hold an emoji with skin tones | Shows the variants; your choice is remembered |
| Persian: tap the half-space key | Types a half-space (zero-width non-joiner) |
| Persian: hold ا or ی | Offers آ أ إ ء or ئ ي |
Good to know
- Return always starts a new line, whatever the app calls it.
- There's no autocorrect, word suggestions or swipe typing.
- The keyboard follows dark and light mode, and Gelim's colours. Reduce Transparency, Reduce Motion and larger text are respected.
- Key clicks follow your iPhone's Keyboard Clicks sound setting.
Next steps
- Actions in the keyboard: improve what you just typed.
- Clipboard in the keyboard: paste with one tap.
