Permissions on the Mac

Gelim asks macOS for a few permissions, each for something specific: reading your selection, putting answers back, recording a meeting. Nothing else is read.

What each permission is for

PermissionWhat it lets Gelim doNeeded for
AccessibilityRead the text you selected, and paste answers into other appsQuick actions, launcher chat pick-up, Insert, clipboard paste, snippets, the window switcher

Gelim doesn't use Input Monitoring or Full Disk Access.

1. Open System Settings

When Gelim needs a permission, it says so with Open System Settings. You can also go there yourself: System Settings → Privacy & Security.

2. Turn Gelim on

Find the permission (for example Accessibility), and turn on Gelim. macOS may ask for your password.

3. Go back to Gelim

Some permissions take effect only after Gelim restarts; macOS offers Quit & Reopen. Your recordings and windows come back.

Where Gelim asks

  • Accessibility: the Accessibility access needed card in the launcher, Settings → Chat → Accessibility access, and the Couldn't insert banner.
  • Automation: the first time Gelim reads Finder, Safari, Chrome or Mail, or Allow… in Settings → Integrations.
  • Microphone and System Audio: the first time you start a recording, or Settings → Recordings → Meeting audio from other apps.
  • Screen Recording: the first time you capture an area (Allow Screen Recording to capture an area), or Settings → Switcher & snippets.
