Capture an area
Select part of your screen with one key, and the launcher opens with that picture attached. Run an action that reads images on it, or ask about it in the Chat tab. Mark it up first if you want to point at something.
What you need
- Gelim for Mac, signed in with your Gelim Account.
- Screen Recording allowed for Gelim. The first time you capture, Gelim asks; choose Allow… and allow it in System Settings, then press the key again.
1. Select the area
Press ⌥Tab in any app. Drag across the part of the screen you want. Press Space to pick a whole window instead, or esc to cancel: nothing opens.
2. Use it in the launcher
The launcher opens with the picture attached. Quick lists the actions that read images first. Choose Chat to ask about it: the picture is attached to your new chat as Screen area, and you can remove it before you send.
The picture stays on your Mac until you run something with it, and it's gone when you close the launcher.
3. Mark it up first
Press ⌥⇧Tab instead. After you select the area, a small window opens with Arrow, Rectangle, Highlight, Pen and Text, five colours, and Undo (⌘Z) and Redo (⌘⇧Z).
- Copy (⌘C) puts the picture with your marks so far on the clipboard, at full size, to paste into any app. The window stays open, so you can go on marking. If you leave it open, your next capture opens its own window and this one closes.
- Send to Gelim opens the launcher with your marks.
- Cancel discards it.
Shortcuts
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| ⌥Tab | Capture an area: select an area, then open the launcher with it |
| ⌥⇧Tab | Capture and mark up: select an area, mark it up, then open the launcher |
In Settings → Shortcuts, choose each one's trigger: a Key combination (click it and press the new keys), Double Shift or Double Control (press the key twice quickly, with no other key between). For example, capture on Double Shift and mark up on Double Control. A double tap can start only one of the two.
If it doesn't work
- You see only your wallpaper, or nothing happens. Allow Screen Recording for Gelim in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then try again.
- ⌥Tab does something else. Another app uses the key: choose another, or a double tap, in Settings → Shortcuts.
Next steps
- Quick actions: run an action on what you captured.
- Chat in the launcher: ask about it.
