Record a meeting on your Mac
Your Mac can record what it plays — a Teams, Zoom or browser call — together with your microphone. Gelim saves the audio on your Mac first, shows the transcript as people speak, and can translate it live.
What you need
- Gelim for Mac, signed in, with credit for live text.
- Microphone allowed, and Screen & System Audio Recording for meeting audio.
1. Open New recording
Press ⌘⇧R, click + next to Recordings, or choose Record in the menu bar.
2. Choose the source
- Microphone only: in-person meetings and voice notes.
- Meeting audio + microphone: online calls in any app. macOS asks for Screen & System Audio Recording the first time.
Check the level meter shows your voice. Change picks another microphone.
3. Set translation and a title (optional)
Turn on Live translation and choose a language to see a translation under each passage. Live translation on or off, and the microphone, start as you last chose them (the microphone while it's connected; otherwise the system default). Link to connects the recording to a chat. Leave the title empty and Gelim names it.
4. Start recording
Choose Start recording. The recorder shows the timer, the sources, and how much has been uploaded. The live transcript fills in beside it; grey italic text is a draft that may still change.
5. Finish
Press ⌘⇧F, or Finish. Gelim uploads the rest and the transcript follows. ⌘⇧P pauses and resumes.
What you'll see
The recording's page shows four steps: Saved on this device · Audio sent · Transcript · Actions. Then use Transcript, Actions and Chat about this.
Record offline
Choose Record offline in Recordings to keep everything on your Mac while you record. Afterwards, find it under Offline recordings · on this Mac and choose Queue for transcription when you're ready; that's when credit is used.
If another device is already recording live, New recording says Already recording on another device and where, such as Recording on your iPhone. Choose Open to follow its live transcript, or Record here anyway to record offline on this Mac. With no connection, choose Record offline or Try live anyway; if Gelim can't be reached, Record offline or Try again.
If something goes wrong
- Offline: recording continues and audio keeps saving. Upload and live text resume by themselves.
- Out of credit: recording continues; transcription waits until there's credit. Choose Try again after adding some.
- Audio input disconnected: the recording ends with what was captured.
- A recording stops at four hours.
Next steps
- Recordings: transcripts, actions, translation and sharing.
- Troubleshooting: uploads that wait, and the microphone.
